Instant Jalebi Recipe

Jalebi, also known as zulbia, jilapi, mushabak and zalabia, is an Indian sweet snack popular all over South Asia, and the Middle East. It is made by deep-frying maida flour batter in pretzel or circular shapes, which are then soaked in sugar syrup. This dessert can be served warm or cold.


Instant Jalebi recipe :


Ingredients :


1 cup all purpose flour 150 gm

4 tsp spoon of cornflour

4 tsp spoon of yogurt

1/4 tsp of soda

1/4 tsp if food colour or haldi powder if you dont have colour.

1/2 cup water


For Syrup :


1 cup sugar 150 gm

1 cup water.

2-3 cardamom

1/2 tsp of lemon juice.

1/2 kesar strands optional




Method :


Step - 1


First make the sugar syrup. To make the sugar syrup add sugar to a pan on medium heat. Now add water and mix till sugar dissolves. After 4-5 minutes the syrup will develop a one string consistency which means that if you put a drop of the syrup between your thumb and index finger and move the fingers apart, you will notice the syrup forming one string/thread. Add saffron strands.


Step - 2


For jalebi batter. Take any large mixing bowl add flour, cornflour, food colour or haldi yogurt. Mix all with the help of spoon. Add half water and whisk proper. Add more water and whisk properly. Then add soda and mix gently. Batter should be floeing, lump free and pouring consistency. Whisk for few seconds and keep aside for 5 minutes.



Step - 3


Pour the batter into plastic tomato ketchup squeeze bottle or you can pour the batter into piping bag.


Step - 4


Fir frying jalebies. Take a flat pan add desi ghee or you can take mixture of oil and ghee. Like oil and add 1 tbsp of ghee. ghee gives a better flavour. make sure your pan is not too shallow and should be approximately 1 inch deep for frying jalebis.


Oil should not very hot during frying. Now squeeze the bottle and make round spirals with the batter. Flip fry till the jalebis are a light golden.


Remove from oil and,


then immediately drop the fried jalebis in the warm sugar syrup for 30 seconds not more than 30 seconds otherwise jalebi will be soft.



finally, serve jalebis hot, warm or at room temperature.
